The National Health Commission has issued the “Reference Standards for the Construction of Key Central Township Health Centers.”

In response to the “Opinions on Further Deepening Reform and Promoting the Healthy Development of Rural Medical and Healthcare Systems,” issued in 2023 by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council—which stipulated that “in counties with large permanent populations, extensive geographic areas, county seats not located at the center of their respective counties, and insufficient service coverage capacity of county-level hospitals, 1–2 central health centers may be selected and established outside the county seat, so that their services can basically reach the standard of county-level hospitals”—the General Office of the National Health Commission, the Comprehensive Department of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Comprehensive Department of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently jointly released the “Notice on Issuing Reference Standards for the Construction of Key Central Township Health Centers” along with a reply to Proposal No. 2503 submitted at the Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress. These documents provide us with clear reference standards and required benchmarks for building key central township health centers. Through the annexes of the “Notice on Issuing Reference Standards for the Construction of Key Central Township Health Centers,” we learn about the scope of facilities to be built and the equipment to be provided, covering more than 190 diseases across eight departments.
